This decision was revealed shortly after it was noted that King Charles would not be able to meet with Prince Harry during his brief visit to the UK.

The ceremony to appoint Prince William will occur next week during a joint royal engagement, a role previously anticipated to be filled by Prince Harry before his departure from royal duties in 2020. Prince Harry had been closely associated with the regiment, serving with them in Afghanistan until 2014.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the transition of duties from Charles, who held the position for over three decades, will be symbolically conducted in front of an Apache helicopter, akin to the model Prince Harry piloted during his service.
