What is COVID-19 Rebound? Fauci Experiences ‘Paxlovid Rebound’ after COVID-19 Diagnosis

The fact that Dr. Anthony Fauci tested positive for COVID-19 a second time in as many weeks is a sign of “COVID-19 rebound.”

The 81-year-old Fauci said that Paxlovid successfully treated his initial bout of the illness. In high-risk patients, this prescription oral antiviral medication lowers the risk of hospitalization or death.

At first, it functioned as a negative Fauci test. Then, it ceased to function. Fauci remarked, “reverted back to positive.”

“It’s sort of what people are referring to as a Paxlovid rebound. And over the next day or so, I started feeling really poorly — much worse than in the first go-around — so I went back on Paxlovid,” Fauci said.

Fauci has finished his second round with Paxlovid. He’s currently improving.

“Fortunately I feel reasonably good. I mean, I’m not completely without symptoms,” Fauci said.

Although Paxlovid is not advised for people who are at high risk, the Centers for Disease Control issued a warning regarding the potential for COVID-19 rebound symptoms in May.

“If you’re older, if you have underlying illnesses, if you’re immune-compromised — those are the targeted people that, for the most part, get Paxlovid,” Dr. William Schaffner is an infectious disease specialist.

The CDC also noted that “a brief return of symptoms” It may happen in some people “independent of treatment with Paxlovid and regardless of vaccination status.”

As per The New York Times, it’s likely that you are going through a rebound if you had COVID-19 and recovered within the previous two weeks, but after that, you start to suffer recurring symptoms or you test positive once more. The suggested 5-day isolation period should be restarted. Refer to the guidance. You can find the CDC website.

“You can end re-isolation after 5 days if you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your symptoms are improving. You should also wear a mask for 10 days after the rebound,” the website states.
