BBC Breakfast Turns Awkward as Naga Munchetty Jokingly Snubs Carol Kirkwood on Air
Things got a little cheeky on BBC Breakfast during Thursday morning’s show as a playful exchange between Naga Munchetty and Carol Kirkwood took a surprising twist live on air.
Naga, who was back on the red sofa with co-host Charlie Stayt, was setting up Carol’s regular weather slot when the mood quickly turned from professional to playfully awkward. Just as Carol was getting ready to deliver the forecast, Naga jumped in and said, “It’s time to talk to Carol and look ahead.”
The camera cut to Carol, standing in front of the weather screen, ready to do her thing. But instead of handing over smoothly, Naga began describing the weather herself. “That’s pretty much the view that was out there this morning and I think that is there for a lot of us. It’s quite changeable weather but I think calmer nights and less stuffy nights,” she commented, reports the Express.

Carol, ever the professional, took it in stride and cracked a joke of her own. “And that is the forecast, I’ll be back in 10 minutes with the headlines,” she said with a smile.
Cue some laughs in the studio, but things took a slightly more eyebrow-raising turn when Naga followed up with: “Bye Carol it was really good talking to you. It is 12 minutes to 9 is the time, let’s move on to something more interesting.”
Carol looked genuinely surprised for a split second and simply replied: “A shock.” Naga, clearly enjoying the moment, burst out laughing and added: “Only joking.”
It was the kind of banter viewers have come to expect from the BBC Breakfast team, though the moment definitely caught a few people off guard with how casually it unfolded on live TV.
Carol, who’s been a familiar face on our screens for years, recently opened up about her time on Strictly Come Dancing. She competed on the hit BBC show back in 2015 with professional partner Pasha Kovalev and made it through to week seven.
Chatting with Gary Davies on Radio 2, Carol reflected on how tough it was juggling the glitter and sequins of Strictly with her demanding day job forecasting the weather.

According to the Bristol Live, “When you look back on it, you think, ‘I can’t believe I did that’. It was joyous, it was really hard work because I was working Monday to Friday, doing Breakfast at the time,” she admitted. “So I was exhausted doing it, but Pasha Kovalev, my partner, is a gent as well and a really, really nice man.”
Carol’s fans have always admired her for being upbeat and professional no matter what’s thrown at her — whether it’s an early morning start, dancing in front of millions, or the occasional unexpected on-air jibe from a co-presenter. And in true Carol style, she brushed it off with grace and good humour, proving once again why she remains a much-loved part of the BBC Breakfast team.
