Keir Starmer Slammed Over Grooming Gangs U-Turn and Told to Resign

Keir Starmer is facing fresh calls to resign over his handling of the grooming gangs scandal, after a damning review by Baroness Casey revealed shocking truths. The review, published by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, has sparked fury from critics, including former Conservative MP Anna Firth, who blasted Starmer’s decision to commission the report, accusing him of a “betrayal” to victims and calling it a “disgrace.”

Speaking on GB News, Firth didn’t hold back. “The fact that Keir Starmer had to commission yet another report that we’ve all paid for with our tax money to tell us things that we already knew is absolutely disgraceful,” she fumed. “He should have ordered this report six months ago. This is yet another monumental U-turn.”

Firth’s fury wasn’t just about the timing of the review, but also about Starmer’s flip-flopping stance on the issue. She pointed to his past comments, where he dismissed calls for a national inquiry, labelling them as “far-right” views. “It’s a complete betrayal, in my opinion, of the victims who deserved this to happen earlier,” Firth said. “The fact that he banded people campaigning for this on a ‘far-right bandwagon’ is disgusting.”

The former MP also praised the relentless campaigning by the People’s Channel and its reporter Charlie Peters, saying it was the channel’s efforts that had consistently pushed for a national inquiry. “This is a report which says definitively there should be a national inquiry, which will probably not be news or anything new to your viewers. And this channel is to be commended for saying consistently for months that we should have a national inquiry.”

As the report laid bare the failures in tackling grooming gangs, Firth was incensed by Starmer’s absence from the scene, as he was attending the G7 summit in Canada when the review was published. “He scuttled off to the G7 and let this break, and so he didn’t actually have to face the flak,” Firth said. “They had this report 10 days ago. No10 could have timed the release of this report on any day. Why on earth wasn’t it released about 10 days ago?”

Her frustration wasn’t just about timing; it was about Starmer’s repeated U-turns, which she believes show a lack of clear leadership. “They say that a good Prime Minister is a signpost, telling the country where he’s taking us. A bad Prime Minister is a weather vane,” she said. “And there’s absolutely no doubt what Keir Starmer is, he is the biggest weather vane that we’ve seen.”

As the national debate on grooming gangs intensifies, many are questioning whether Starmer’s change of heart comes too late. His critics argue that his failure to act earlier not only betrayed the victims but also allowed the problem to fester unchecked. With the latest findings from Baroness Casey’s review now in the public eye, the pressure is mounting on Starmer to take responsibility for his role in the handling of the scandal – and some, like Firth, believe the time has come for him to step down.
