Nicolas Hamilton Gets VIP Treatment from Ferrari as Brother Lewis Eyes Glory at Silverstone
Nicolas Hamilton was all smiles after visiting Silverstone on Saturday to support his older brother, Lewis, during qualifying for the British Grand Prix. But this wasn’t just any weekend at the track for the 33-year-old British Touring Car driver — it marked the first time he saw Lewis sporting the red of Ferrari, and the Italian team gave him the kind of welcome he won’t forget anytime soon.
Nicolas, who competes in the British Touring Car Championship with Powder Monkey Brewing Co and Esidock, races with a specially adapted car due to his cerebral palsy. He’s taken part in more than 150 races in the series and continues to make his mark on the motorsport scene in his own right.
Still, watching his older brother take to the grid as a Ferrari driver at Silverstone was clearly a moment to remember. After qualifying, Lewis made his way over to Nicolas, and the two shared a short but heartfelt catch-up before a warm embrace. Later, Nicolas shared his excitement online and praised the way Ferrari looked after him during his visit, reported the Express.
“So good to be back, supporting big bro!” he wrote on X. “First time for me with @scuderiaferrari, where I have been made to feel so welcome.”
It may have been a proud day for the Hamilton family, but qualifying didn’t end quite the way Lewis might have hoped. After showing strong form in practice and setting the pace in Q2, things didn’t quite come together in Q3. He managed to shave just a hundredth of a second off his time and ended up qualifying fifth for Sunday’s race.
He’ll be starting behind Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris and George Russell. Still, for a man with nine wins at Silverstone already — more than any other driver in history — you can’t count Lewis out just yet.
Speaking after qualifying, Lewis said he’s feeling more comfortable in the car and isn’t giving up hope of pulling off something special in front of the home crowd. “I definitely feel a lot better in the car this weekend,” he said. “This track is incredible, the crowd’s been amazing but we needed just a little bit more, like another tenth of performance in the car just to nudge us a little bit closer to the front guys.”
He knows it’ll take something extra to challenge for the win, but that’s never stopped him before. “Of course, I’ll dream of it tonight and I’ll try and execute tomorrow,” he added. “I think the weather’s going to be interesting, I’d imagine it’s dry probably for the race but it would be cool if it’s drizzling or… yeah, we’ll see.”
So while Nicolas was soaking up the Ferrari hospitality, Lewis will be hoping to give his brother something even bigger to cheer about — a record-extending 10th home win in front of the Silverstone faithful.
