Lorraine Kelly Just Dragged Love Island’s New Cast and She’s Not Wrong

Lorraine Kelly didn’t hold back when giving her thoughts on this year’s Love Island cast, and it’s safe to say she’s not impressed. During Thursday’s episode of her ITV show, Lorraine, the host sat down with Emily Clarkson and journalist Lucie Cave to chat about the unrealistic beauty standards being pushed online, and it didn’t take long for the chat to veer into Love Island territory.

Emily Clarkson, daughter of Jeremy Clarkson, brought up how dangerous social media filters can be, especially for young girls constantly comparing themselves to airbrushed perfection. Her viral video on the subject sparked the conversation, and Lorraine was clearly passionate about it. She admitted she doesn’t actually watch Love Island but said it’s hard to avoid clips of the show popping up on her feed, reported the Mirror.

And when it comes to the cast, Lorraine had plenty to say. “Programmes like Love Island… to me, they all look exactly the blinking same,” she said. “Why do you all want to look the same? Why do you want to have that same sort of look about you?”

She didn’t stop there, pointing out how worrying it is that so many young people are rushing into cosmetic work. “Children, I mean they’re in their 20s, and they’re having work done. It’s heartbreaking,” she added. “It’s crazy,” Lucie agreed, calling out the so-called ‘Love Island effect’ that’s fuelling a surge in cosmetic treatments among the younger crowd.

And while Lorraine was calling out the cookie-cutter aesthetics of the cast, the drama inside the villa was heating up just days into the new series. Viewers were left raging after contestant Sophie Lee was brutally dumped from the villa after only two days — a twist no one saw coming.

Sophie, who had seemed safe from an early exit, found herself suddenly single after her partner Harry was picked by newcomer Shakira. Shakira only had 24 hours to find a new partner after American bombshell Toni swooped in and stole her original match, Ben.

Faced with the clock ticking, Shakira had to choose between Blu, Conor and Harry. All three lads put themselves forward, but in the end, she picked 30-year-old Harry, leaving Sophie out in the cold. Fans didn’t take the news well, with many slamming the decision and calling it a harsh twist so early in the show.

Despite the shock dumping, Sophie took the whole thing in her stride. “I gave it everything I could,” she said after leaving. “I’m very grateful for the experience. It’s taught me so much about who I am, how I communicate and what I am looking for. I wish Harry all the best, he genuinely deserves a girl who makes him happy.”

So while Lorraine’s busy calling out the cloned cast and their beauty standards, viewers are still glued to the drama — even if it’s already delivering heartbreak just a few episodes in.
