Hillary Clinton and other top Democrats filed a motion to sanction Trump for a ‘frivolous’ lawsuit

According to USA Today, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton joined a number of other top Democrats in a court motion seeking to sanction former President Donald Trump for filing a debunked racketeering lawsuit against them.

Attorneys for Clinton argued in the motion, filed in the United States District Court in West Palm Beach, Florida, that Trump should be sanctioned for more than $1 million in legal fees incurred while fighting Trump’s lawsuit.

In addition to Clinton, the motion requested that Trump pay the legal bills of others associated with Clinton, including her 2016 presidential campaign manager, John Podesta, according to USA Today.

“Under its inherent authority, the court may order [Trump] to pay defendants’ costs and fees associated with the defense of the entire action, which would not have been incurred absent [Trump’s] bad-faith pursuit of these frivolous claims,” the motion wrote.

The motion is based on Trump’s March racketeering lawsuit, in which he claimed there was a massive conspiracy among dozens of top Democrats to derail his political career.

However, the lawsuit was quickly dismissed by a district judge, who wrote in his decision that “what [Trump’s lawsuit] lacks in substance and legal support it seeks to substitute with length, hyperbole, and the settling of scores and grievances.”

The judge added that Trump’s actions were “a list of political grievances” that “had no merit as a lawsuit.”

According to the filing, Clinton is attempting to recoup $176,412. Former Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, chairman John Podesta, and former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz are among the defendants seeking fees.
