Jon Stewart roasts RFK Jr. for leaving wife behind during White House correspondents’ dinner evacuation
Jon Stewart wasted no time turning the chaotic evacuation at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner into late-night gold, with his sharpest barbs reserved for Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was seen being whisked to safety while his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, was apparently left to fend for herself.
The incident unfolded Saturday evening when a shooting outside the venue triggered a swift evacuation of senior officials inside. By Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, Stewart had studied the footage carefully and he had notes.
The comedian took playful jabs at several figures caught on camera during the scramble. Vice President JD Vance earned a mention for what Stewart described as a “‘Dancing with the Stars’ quickstep,” while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was ribbed for “dropping a smoldering Blue Steel” on his way out of the room.
But it was Kennedy’s exit that gave Stewart the most material. Footage showed the health secretary being surrounded and ushered out by multiple Secret Service agents, while Hines appeared to be left behind in the chaos.
“RFK Jr. being whisked away by a Secret Service hive, who apparently couldn’t spare one worker bee for, I don’t know, his wife,” Stewart said before playing the clip. “Do you see right there? There’s a group of men carrying another man out of the room. And then there’s a woman, who appears to be … desperately reaching out for someone to care, to help her.”
He pressed on: “The woman reaching up in agony and fear, that’s RFK Jr.’s wife. By the way, if there’s one guy in that entire room who seems like they would be impervious to physical damage, it’s f–king RFK Jr.” Stewart added that Kennedy looked “like a guy who is trapped between being Bruce Banner and the Hulk.”
The bit took an unexpected turn when Stewart introduced a point of comparison: Stephen Miller, who appeared in the same footage, seemingly shielding his pregnant wife, Katie, from the chaos.
“The guy right there, shielding the pregnant woman from danger, that’s Stephen Miller and his wife.
Stephen Miller carefully protecting his wife,” Stewart said, before pointing out that doing so had been “an option.” “You can protect your wife instead of, I don’t know, beating her to the escape pod,” he quipped. “And the guy who outshined you is Stephen f–king Miller … That’s who was more chivalrous.”
Stewart saved his final blow for last, suggesting the moment deserved its own entry on a “Kennedy Family Abandoning Women To Their Fate” Wikipedia page a reference that drew audible groans from his studio audience. “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” Stewart responded. “Too soon or too many? … Seriously, I’m not wrong. Look it up. F–k.”
