“Please Do Something” Frustrated Republican Sends Message to Trump

When President Donald Trump sat down with Fox News anchor Bret Baier this week, he probably wasn’t expecting one of his most loyal supporters to put him on the spot about rising costs. But that’s exactly what happened during Wednesday’s interview on Special Report, following Trump’s economic speech in Miami.

Baier read a message from North Carolina retiree Regina Foley, a lifelong Republican who said she voted for Trump three times but is “not happy” about the cost of living these days. “I want the Republicans to keep control of Congress in 2026, but something HAS to be done fast!” Foley wrote. “I don’t see the best economy right now—Wall Street numbers do not reflect my Main Street money. Please do something, President Trump.”

Asked what he would say to Foley and voters like her, Trump didn’t hesitate. “I do say this,” he replied. “Beef we have to get down. I think of groceries—you know, it’s an old fashion word but it’s a beautiful word. Beef we have to get down, but we’ve got prices way down and think of this: energy.

She drives a car, probably, and her energy prices are way down. And energy is so all-encompassing. It’s so big that when energy goes down everything comes down. Everything follows it. And I have energy down to five or six-year lows now.”

Baier, keeping the pressure on, asked if Trump believed prices were actually falling because of that. Trump responded, “I think they’re coming down, but they’re down already. I think the biggest problem is Republicans don’t talk about it. They don’t talk about the word ‘affordability,’ and the Democrats lie about it.”

Earlier that day on Fox & Friends, Baier had suggested Republicans should take a hard look at how Americans are feeling about the economy. After GOP losses in states like New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, he said the disconnect between Wall Street’s success and everyday household struggles is something the party can’t afford to ignore.

“This dichotomy between how Wall Street’s doing and how big business is doing and how you feel about it at home is something Republicans really have to look at closely,” he said.

Baier also echoed Trump’s belief that his absence from the ballot played a role in the GOP’s weaker turnout. “He was not on the ballot and when he’s not, it doesn’t produce the same emotion,” Baier said. “But it does produce emotion on the other side—the anti-Trump voter—and they came out in droves as well.”

Trump acknowledged that the ongoing government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history, has been hurting Republicans politically. Despite the GOP holding control of both the House and the Senate, he admitted the party hasn’t been able to steer the situation in its favor.

For now, Trump appears focused on reshaping his message around affordability—something even his most loyal supporters, like Foley, are demanding he take seriously.
