Prince William’s mistrust of Meghan Markle said to be blocking reunion with Harry

Prince William’s doubts about Meghan Markle are being described as the biggest barrier standing in the way of him making peace with his brother Harry, according to GB News. The broadcaster cited royal author Ingrid Seward, who suggested the Prince of Wales has had little interest in repairing ties with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Reports claim William has not spoken to Harry for more than two years, with relations deteriorating even further after the Sussexes released their explosive memoir, a Netflix series, and a string of interviews. Seward told the outlet that William’s main sticking point remains his sister-in-law.

“The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan,” she said. “She’s disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists of this country.” She went on to add, “I think a lot of people in America feel the same.”

Polling backs up the shift in sentiment across the Atlantic. After the Sussexes’ tell-all chat with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, around 68 percent of Americans said they sympathised with the couple. But by April 2025, YouGov found just 41 percent held a positive view of Meghan, suggesting her popularity has dropped sharply.

According to Seward, William has now “taken a firm stance” and does not want to reignite dialogue with his brother. She said the Prince is cautious about trust, while Harry still feels Meghan was badly treated during her time as a working royal.

“Harry thinks that William insulted Meghan,” she explained. “I think when you have that kind of animosity, it’s really hard to [get around it]. I just don’t see any kind of reparation.”

The two brothers have appeared at major family events in recent years, such as the late Queen’s funeral and King Charles’s coronation, but there has been little sign of warmth. Sources told People magazine that Harry has even tried reaching out directly, but his calls and messages to William have gone unanswered.

For now, it seems William’s mistrust of Meghan is the key reason the brothers remain at odds, leaving any hopes of reconciliation firmly on ice.
