Farage Cut Off Live on GB News After Risking Legal Disaster Viewers Stunned by Sudden Silence

Things got a little chaotic over on GB News when Nigel Farage was suddenly cut off mid-sentence during a live press conference. The Reform UK leader had just started speaking about a highly sensitive court case when presenters Dawn Neesom and Andrew Pierce pulled the plug in real time, clearly concerned about breaching legal boundaries.

It all kicked off while the breaking news strap at the bottom of the screen announced that Farage was unveiling his new prisons adviser. But instead of sticking to the scheduled topic, Farage veered off-script and started talking about “concerning events in Warwickshire over the course of the last few days.” He’d just introduced Councillor George Finch when Andrew quickly jumped in, saying: “So we’re just leaving that press conference with Nigel Farage, Dawn?”

Without skipping a beat, Dawn confirmed: “Yes we are because he is talking about the live case of two Afghans who have been charged with rape”, reported the Express.

It was clear from the presenters’ tone that they were trying to avoid any legal minefields. As they monitored the feed, Andrew said: “Looks like he’s just stopped? Maybe we’ll go back… Who’s speaking now? Oh, we’re not going back, we’re not going back.”

One of the show’s guests tried to clarify who was speaking at the press conference, saying: “He’s the deputy leader of Rutland Council in Leicestershire, he’s only about 19…” but Andrew corrected him immediately: “Oh no that’s [George Finch] the leader of Warwickshire County Council, youngest leader of the council. Terrific, I think it’s great that young people are getting involved in local government, but I do think 19 is quite young to run a major local authority with billion pound budgets, don’t you?”

The segment stirred quite a bit of reaction online. One person took to X (formerly Twitter) fuming: “GB NEWS HAS TO CUT REFORM’S LIVE FEED BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO TALK ABOUT A LIVE ONGOING COURT CASE! Have Reform heard of contempt of court? But to talk about an ongoing case like this is incredibly risky and may prejudice any future trial. Why are they doing this?”

But not everyone agreed. Some viewers believed the channel had overreacted, with one user writing: “Very disappointed in @GBNEWS. This was the wrong call to cut away.” And another suggested: “Legal advice I presume said he COULD TALK about it.”

It’s not every day a live political broadcast gets yanked off-air mid-sentence, but when you’re treading the line with legal restrictions, broadcasters tend to play it safe. Even when it’s someone like Farage at the mic.
