GMB Viewers Hit Boiling Point After Rachel Reeves Announcement Sparks Online Fury

Good Morning Britain sparked a major backlash from viewers after the show covered Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ upcoming plans, which are set to be unveiled in her first big Mansion House speech. The segment, which ran on Tuesday morning, focused on Reeves’ strategy to help boost the UK economy — but plenty of viewers weren’t buying it.

Presenter Sean Fletcher highlighted the significance of the moment, pointing out that this would be Reeves’ first Mansion House speech since becoming Chancellor. It also comes not long after she appeared visibly emotional in the Commons, something that’s drawn a lot of public attention, reported the Express.

Louisa James, reporting live, said, “Those tears in the commons were to do with a personal matter for the chancellor but nevertheless, speculation about her position meant that the prime minister had to come out and say that she was going to be in the job for many years to come. Some are seeing today’s speech as a bit of a reset moment for her.”

Reeves is expected to announce a wave of reforms that include easing rules for first-time buyers and cutting some of the regulations brought in after the 2008 financial crash. Louisa explained, “She’s going to say that she’s going to put pounds in the pockets of working people by getting rid of some of the regulations and red tape.”

One of the headline changes Reeves is set to introduce is making it easier for people to get mortgages worth up to four and a half times their salary — which could offer a lifeline to those struggling to get on the property ladder. “She also wants to make it easier for companies to list on the London stock exchange,” Louisa added.

But while the chancellor’s speech might appeal to city types and business leaders, Louisa pointed out that economists say Reeves is still under real pressure to deliver results.

The GMB team tried to frame the speech as a fresh start — but for many viewers, it only added fuel to the fire. Social media quickly filled with angry reactions, with people slamming the proposed policies and questioning Reeves’ credibility.

“This is why she wants more homes built so youngens get into debt,” one angry viewer wrote. Another scoffed, “Like no one ever heard that lie before!”

One person didn’t hold back: “Won’t make a difference if you keep on taxing businesses, where is the incentive for people if you take everything they earn!”

Another viewer added, “Why would I believe anything the clueless amateur has to say?” And one particularly furious post read, “Dear god she is the worst chancellor in British history, utterly clueless and watching her blubbering is cringeworthy and embarrassing! Imagine had Rishi Sunak done this when chancellor — any Tory chancellor! He’d have been crucified by British media!”

Whatever Reeves says in her Mansion House speech, it’s clear she’s facing an uphill battle when it comes to winning over public opinion — and viewers of Good Morning Britain are already sounding the alarm.
