Carol Kirkwood Breaks Silence on Retirement Plans and Why She’s Not Going Anywhere Just Yet
BBC Breakfast’s beloved weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has opened up about the one question fans keep asking and it’s all about retirement. But before anyone panics, the 63-year-old national treasure has made it clear — she’s not ready to give it all up just yet.
Carol, who’s become a familiar and comforting presence on our screens for decades, recently had a candid chat about her future. Despite being in the industry for so long and juggling a successful career as a best-selling author too, she’s showing no signs of slowing down.
In an interview, Carol joked about the idea of stepping away from the cameras, laughing, “Don’t say that; you’ll get me sacked! And I love my job; I can’t imagine not doing it.” That kind of honesty is exactly why viewers have stayed loyal to her all these years — she’s as down-to-earth as they come, reported Yorkshire Live.
Speaking to Radio Times, she went into a bit more detail, admitting, “There will be a day, obviously, when that happens, but for now I still love the weather. Each day is different, you know?” She added that our famously unpredictable British weather keeps things interesting, saying, “Our ever-changing island weather keeps things constantly fascinating”, reports the Express.
While Carol is well-loved by most, she didn’t sugarcoat the darker side of life in the public eye. She’s faced her fair share of online abuse, but it’s clear she’s not letting the trolls get to her. Addressing the criticism she sometimes receives, she explained, “I’m just doing my job to the best of my ability and hopefully improving myself on a daily basis, whether people think I’m capable or not. Titles don’t really matter.”
It’s not the first time she’s spoken about dealing with hurtful comments online. Back in 2014, in an interview with The Herald, she got real about how strange it is to be criticised by people who don’t actually know her. “They’re being personal, but they don’t actually know you, so you let it go,” she said.
She gave an example of the kind of bizarre comments she gets, saying, “When someone says, ‘I’ve seen that dress seven times in the last month, stop wearing it,’ you think, ‘You wouldn’t say that to somebody in the office’. But you take it on the chin.”
It’s this kind of level-headed attitude and wit that’s helped Carol remain one of the most respected and adored names in British broadcasting. She’s not afraid to laugh at herself, stand her ground, or speak out about the pressures that come with being in the spotlight.
So for now, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Carol’s sticking around — still passionate about the weather, still handling trolls with class, and still doing what she loves best every morning.
