What really happened between Meghan and the Queen revealed

Turns out Meghan Markle’s royal wedding wasn’t just about the dress and tiaras. There was a fair bit of behind-the-scenes drama too.

According to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, veteran party planner Lady Elizabeth Anson—who also happened to be the Queen’s cousin—didn’t have the easiest time working with Meghan.

Lady Elizabeth apparently offered some ideas for the wedding, only to be brushed off completely. When someone asked if Harry would weigh in, Meghan supposedly replied, “He will write from Africa.” That quote, which came via MailOnline, raised more than a few eyebrows.

The Queen herself wasn’t too happy about how things were unfolding. Smith revealed that Lady Elizabeth told her, “The Queen said Meghan could turn into nothing but trouble; she sees things in a different way.” Smith added, “When I spoke with the Queen, she said she is not at all content,” and said the row had “really upset” Her Majesty.

Things got even stickier when Harry went straight to the Archbishop of Canterbury to ask him to officiate the wedding, instead of following tradition and involving the Dean of Windsor first. That move apparently upset a lot of people inside the palace and left what some described as lasting bruises.

Asked directly if Meghan came across as bossy, Lady Elizabeth said, “So I gather. Very much so.”

It seems this wasn’t an isolated incident. In a separate report, Smith described a private meeting between Harry and the Queen just months before the wedding, which left her very worried. She was concerned Meghan was cutting her out of major decisions and not respecting royal traditions. Sources say the Queen was genuinely rattled by it all.

A report from Page Six also revealed Harry’s decision to bypass the usual process when choosing who would officiate led to a cooling-off in his relationship with his grandmother. At one point, people wondered whether he was truly in love or if Meghan was simply steering the whole ship.

To be fair, Harry did go back to the Queen later on to patch things up, and by the time the big day rolled around, relations had improved. But it’s clear that the lead-up to the wedding wasn’t quite the fairytale people imagined.
