Naga Munchetty Playfully Roasts Gethin Jones on BBC Breakfast and Viewers Loved It

Naga Munchetty wasn’t holding back during Thursday’s BBC Breakfast as she cheekily grilled Gethin Jones live on air in a crossover moment that had viewers laughing. The 50-year-old presenter was back on the red sofa alongside co-host Ben Thompson, bringing the latest headlines to the nation as usual — but it was their banter with the Morning Live team that really stole the show.

As part of the regular handover to the next programme, Naga and Ben were getting ready to pass things over to Gethin and his co-host Kimberley Walsh when things took a playful turn. The pair had just wrapped up a segment with reporter Ben Boulos on road rage when Gethin picked up on it with a comment of his own, reported Yorkshire Live.

“I can’t imagine either Ben getting road rage. Both lovely, mild-mannered men aren’t they?” Gethin said with a grin, referencing both Ben Thompson and Ben Boulos.

Naga, never one to let a comment slide, quickly fired back off-camera with a cheeky, “What does that mean, Gethin?” prompting a laugh from the Morning Live host. Gethin chuckled and tried to move things along smoothly with, “As I was saying,” before diving into what Morning Live had in store for viewers.

It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of exchange, but one that viewers have come to love from Naga — a presenter who doesn’t shy away from keeping things real on-air.

The witty moment followed some more personal and serious reflections from Naga earlier this week, where she opened up on Walking The Dog With Emily Dean podcast about what it’s like living under constant public scrutiny as a recognisable face of the BBC.

“Firstly this is not a woe is me conversation,” she began, “but what happens is you are mindful of your behaviour in public more so than I think most people who aren’t on air.” She made the point that, being a public figure, especially one representing the BBC, means always having to think twice before doing anything that could be taken out of context.

“Not that I want to go and, I don’t know, take a dump in public or something like that,” she joked, before adding more seriously, “When you work for the BBC or work for any organisation, you are representing them because people recognise you.”

She also reflected on the connection viewers feel to her and her colleagues, saying, “When you watch Breakfast, you feel like you’ve got some trusted friends who are getting you through the day and through the news.”

And she was honest about the pressure that comes with that kind of visibility. “There would be a slight disappointment, I think, if you saw me, rip roaring drunk, rolling around the floor and shouting profanities,” she admitted.

So whether it’s giving Gethin a bit of stick on-air or offering a raw glimpse into what life’s like behind the scenes, Naga continues to do what she does best — keeping it sharp, smart and refreshingly real.
