Pregnant Mother-of-Two Found Dead in Northern Ireland Home as 28-Year-Old Man Is Arrested for Murder
A quiet seaside community in Donaghadee, County Down, is in shock after a 27-year-old pregnant woman was found dead in her home on Saturday, June 28.
Police were called to the scene on Elmfield Walk at around 2:15 p.m. after reports of an unresponsive woman. Paramedics tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have since identified her as Sarah Montgomery, a mother of two who was expecting her third child.
Shortly after the discovery, police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody as the investigation unfolds, reported the Daily Mail.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) described the situation as a “deeply tragic case.” Officers are now carrying out a murder investigation and have cordoned off the home while forensic teams examine the scene. Neighbors have been left shaken by the sudden and heartbreaking events.
Chief Inspector Yvonne McManus said, “Our investigation is at a very early stage, and we are trying to establish exactly what happened. We are urging anyone with information to come forward.”
The PSNI also noted that they’re working closely with Sarah’s family, who are being supported by specially trained officers during what they called “an incredibly difficult time.”
This case has reignited serious concerns over violence against women in Northern Ireland. Inspector McManus emphasized that tackling violence against women and girls remains a key priority, saying, “No woman should be made to feel unsafe in her own home.”
Police have asked anyone with relevant information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 865 of 28/06/25.
Donaghadee, known for its peaceful setting and strong sense of community, has been left reeling. Residents expressed disbelief, calling the tragedy “devastating” and describing Sarah as “a loving mother who didn’t deserve this.”
Local authorities have increased police presence in the area in an effort to reassure the public, while investigators continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual near Elmfield Walk around the time of the incident.
As the investigation continues, many are hoping for justice for Sarah and her unborn child. The police have not released further details about the suspect, and formal charges have yet to be filed.
