Woman Takes in Homeless Man — Days Later, She’s Beaten to Death in Her Own Home, Court Hears
A woman who kindly opened her door to a man in need was allegedly killed just days later in a shocking incident that’s left a west London community reeling.
Victoria Adams, 37, was found dead in her flat on Coulter Road in Hammersmith on 9 February. Police had turned up after reports came in of someone trying to break into the property. What they discovered inside has now led to a murder charge and a court case that’s just beginning to unfold, reported the Mirror.
When officers entered the flat, they found Victoria face down in a bedroom. According to details heard at the Old Bailey, her head was covered with a bin bag and a pillow placed on top. Prosecutor Peter Ratliff told the court she had suffered at least 10 blows to the back and side of her head, believed to have been inflicted by a blunt object. A mallet was later recovered during the investigation, allegedly stained with blood and containing DNA linked to the victim.
The suspect, 39-year-old Apapale Adoum, who has no fixed address, was arrested at the scene on the same day Victoria’s body was discovered. He was officially charged with murder on 5 June.
The court heard that Victoria and Adoum had met just three days before her death, on 6 February. At the time, Adoum had been staying in a homeless shelter. It’s believed that Victoria, in an act of generosity, had invited him to stay at her home. However, things appear to have taken a turn shortly after. It’s alleged that she later left a handwritten note asking him to leave.
Adoum appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from Wandsworth Prison on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. He only spoke to confirm his name during the short session.
Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for 26 August and set a provisional date for a three-week trial to begin on 23 March 2026.
For now, Adoum remains in custody while the case moves forward.
What began as a simple gesture of compassion has turned into a tragedy that’s shaken many. As the legal process continues, the community will be looking for answers—and justice for Victoria.
