Gabby Logan Breaks Silence on Affair, Telling Her Kids, and Explosive Alan Shearer Rumours!

Gabby Logan is set to join Match of the Day next season alongside Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates, a huge milestone in a career that just keeps on soaring. But beyond the cameras and live coverage, Gabby’s life story is filled with deeply personal moments she’s never been afraid to share.

At 52, she’s opened up more than ever, letting fans into parts of her world that go well beyond sport. In her 2022 autobiography The First Half, Gabby revealed details of an affair during her uni days, saying she wanted her children, Reuben and Lois, to understand that mistakes can happen – and that what matters most is what you learn from them, reported Wales Online.

Reflecting on the past, she shared a moment from Durham University, when she was dating a fellow student called Ian but started seeing a German tennis player. “You set these kinds of standards for your kids and try and give them a great example. But actually, that’s not the full picture,” she said. “You’re allowed to make bad decisions and then you move on.”

Her husband, Kenny Logan, was surprised to learn the full story. “I didn’t realise you had two boyfriends at the same time,” he told her. “That was a bit of a shock. It was a shock to the kids too!”

Later on, Gabby had to deal with unfounded rumors linking her to Alan Shearer. The speculation kicked off when a 2011 tweet wrongly suggested she was involved in a secret relationship with the former England striker.

She was stunned. “I laughed when I read it. Then I got angry. Then I panicked,” she recalled. She quickly responded online with a warning about defamation, but tabloids like News of the World still ran with it. Gabby clarified that during the 2010 World Cup, she was working in Rustenburg, not Cape Town where Shearer was. The entire story, she said, had “not a grain of truth.”

The most life-altering chapter in Gabby’s past came in 1992, when her younger brother Daniel died suddenly at just 15 from an undetected heart condition. “We had no warning,” she said. “He was just kicking the ball about and keeled over. It was absolutely cataclysmic.” The loss tore her family apart, and she admitted it left a deep and lasting scar. “It defined the rest of our youth and has defined how the family has gone on from those years.”

Her father, former Wales manager Terry Yorath, spiralled after Daniel’s death, struggling with grief and later alcohol. He was even nearly jailed in 2004 for drink-driving after hitting a woman. “I enjoyed being with Daniel and it was mutual. He was the light of my life,” he said, reflecting on his pain. “The picture I have in my mind of Daniel falling torments me.”

Gabby also recently spoke about her own health worries as she approached menopause. At one point, she feared brain fog would cost her the job she loves. “Feeling slightly unsure about things was such an unfamiliar feeling,” she admitted. Thankfully, hormone replacement therapy helped. “HRT has been great and I try to do regular exercise for my brain now.”

In 2023, the family was rocked again when Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The news came via a Zoom call. “Gabby was behind the screen getting ready for another meeting,” he said. “When we both heard those words… we just looked at each other.” He credits regular PSA checks for saving his life. “Otherwise, I would have waited until I had a reason to see the doctor, and then it would have been too late.”
