New Medical Tests Cast Doubt on Wendy Williams’ Dementia Diagnosis
Wendy Williams’ conservatorship case may be headed for a major shift after new medical evaluations reportedly challenged her previous diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. Nearly two years after her team said she was suffering from the degenerative condition, a recent neurological exam suggests she may not have the disease.
Sources told the Media that Williams recently met with a top New York specialist for a full assessment. The results, delivered to her legal team late last month, are said to conflict with the 2024 diagnosis. Her attorneys are now preparing new court filings that could seek to end the court-ordered guardianship she has lived under since 2022.
Williams was first diagnosed in February 2024 with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, conditions that affect language, behavior, and cognitive function. Her representatives at the time said she had begun losing words and behaving unpredictably, prompting deeper medical investigation, according to TMZ.
The former daytime host, who has long dealt with Graves’ disease and lymphedema, has remained under the supervision of a court-appointed guardian for the past several years. The arrangement has been a point of growing controversy. Earlier this year, her ex-husband Kevin Hunter filed a $250 million lawsuit seeking to dissolve the guardianship. He argued that the system meant to protect her had instead isolated her and restricted contact with loved ones.
If the new test results hold up, they could fundamentally reshape the case and give Williams a path toward regaining control of her finances and personal decisions. Her lawyers are reportedly preparing to use the updated medical information to challenge the existing order.
Williams has kept a low public profile while focusing on her health, though her supporters continue to follow developments closely. Once a daily presence on television, she has spent recent years navigating medical setbacks and legal battles. The next phase of the conservatorship fight may determine whether she can step back into a more independent life.
