Susanna Reid Stuns Viewers with BBC Comeback After Over a Decade Away

Fans were left stunned over the weekend as Susanna Reid made a surprise return to the BBC for the first time in 11 years. The Good Morning Britain presenter popped up as a panellist on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, and it’s safe to say no one saw it coming.

The 54-year-old journalist kicked off her media career at BBC Radio Bristol as a news producer before working her way up to a reporting role on BBC News 24. She later landed a spot on BBC Breakfast, where she co-hosted alongside Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt. She stepped away from the show for a stint on Sunday Morning Live in 2010, before eventually making the move to ITV.

It wasn’t long after that she became the face of Good Morning Britain, helping to launch it as the successor to Daybreak. These days, she’s a firm fixture on the ITV breakfast show, regularly co-hosting alongside the likes of Richard Madeley, Ed Balls and Martin Lewis, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

But on Sunday 6 July, Susanna shocked viewers by popping back up on BBC One, joining Daniel Kebede and James Harding on the panel for Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. She seemed thrilled to be back, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram with the caption, “SUNDAY! Always fantastic to be on @bbclaurak back at the BBC, this morning with @danielkebede and James Harding.”

For those wondering if she was making a full return to the BBC, she quickly reassured fans, saying, “Back @gmb tomorrow!” confirming she’d be back at her ITV post the following morning.

Still, her brief return to the BBC caused a wave of excitement online. One fan wrote, “A nice surprise in the morning!” while another added, “Nice to see you back on the BBC.” A third viewer confessed they tuned in specifically because she was on, and someone else shared their early morning confusion, saying, “I was confused this morning thinking it was Monday already when I saw you. Then realised I had BBC One on and there was no Ed.”

The show’s focus this weekend was on public opinion one year after Labour’s landslide general election win. But it was one cheeky comment from Susanna that got everyone talking. She sparked a bit of a stir when she suggested that Prime Minister Keir Starmer should consider going on I’m a Celebrity, referencing Nigel Farage’s appearance on the show in 2023.

It didn’t go down well with everyone, though. One unimpressed viewer took to X, formerly Twitter, to write, “According to Susanna Reid, Starmer should go to I’m a Celebrity. We are doomed.”

Still, it was clear that plenty of viewers enjoyed seeing Susanna back on the Beeb, even if only for a day. And with her back on GMB the next morning, it’s safe to say she’s not switching channels any time soon.
