Prince Philip’s remark at Harry and Meghan’s wedding revealed

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day might have looked like a fairy tale to the world, but behind the scenes there was a moment that has only just come to light, and it wasn’t exactly warm.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in 2018, apparently received a very blunt reaction from Prince Philip once the formalities were over. Grant Harold, who worked for King Charles at his Highgrove estate, has shared what really happened in his new book.

“Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal family, filed out of the chapel,” Harold wrote. “When Prince Philip came out, he turned to the Queen and said, Thank f*** that’s over”, reported the Express.

It was the kind of no-nonsense comment that Philip was famous for, but it also paints a different picture of what the atmosphere was like away from the cameras.

Harold has also spoken about Harry’s often strained relationship with King Charles, something the Duke of Sussex detailed in his memoir Spare. But Harold says from what he personally saw, things didn’t always appear as bad as Harry later suggested.

“Because I saw them. I saw them having dinners together, I saw them having drinks together, I saw them going to parties together,” he wrote. “The King used to do things to make them laugh and giggle.”

The revelations are the latest to emerge as interest in Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the rest of the Royal Family continues, especially given the couple’s move to the US and their public criticisms in recent years.

For many, Prince Philip’s blunt aside on what should have been one of the happiest days for the Sussexes might not come as a huge surprise. Known for his sharp tongue and unfiltered humour, the late Duke of Edinburgh often made headlines for his remarks, whether in private or on official engagements.

Still, for Harry and Meghan, who had the eyes of the world on them during their spectacular Windsor ceremony, the knowledge that some in the family were just waiting for the day to be over adds another layer to their already complicated story.

With Grant Harold lifting the curtain on yet another Royal moment, it seems there’s still plenty more to be said about life behind palace doors.
