Prince Harry told Meghan Markle wedding first after her bold comments before royal marriage

Prince Harry once had to gently remind Meghan Markle to rein things in a little before their wedding, after she spoke out passionately about women’s rights.

The Duchess of Sussex joined Prince William, Kate Middleton and her then-fiancé Harry at an event focused on women’s empowerment, but her comments quickly drew attention from royal fans.

Speaking to the audience, Meghan said: “With so many campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp, there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them. You’ll often hear people say, ‘Well you’re helping people find their voice’ and I fundamentally disagree with that, because women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice, they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen”, reported the Mirror.

Royal author Tom Bower later reflected on the moment in his book, noting how Meghan’s forthright views shook up the atmosphere. He wrote: “That power was exercised by the Foundation’s executives, an unimpressive group criticised for ineptly moving the royals around like chess pieces. While William, Kate and Harry had become accustomed to their motley behaviour, Meghan’s arrival as a natural recruit for the Foundation’s philanthropic work disturbed the rhythm of the executives’ habits. Her feminism also upset their ingrained conservatism”, reported the Express.

According to Bower, Meghan’s approach clashed with the expectations placed on her role, as she had not been invited to the Royal Foundation to “reinvent the Royal Family’s customs.”

He then described the moment Harry tried to intervene during Meghan’s speech. As she spoke, Bower said Harry noticed William’s tight grin. “‘Wedding first,’ Harry whispered loudly. ‘We can multitask,’ Meghan replied to the unexpected interruption,” he added.

The exchange offered a glimpse into the differences between Meghan’s outspoken style and the Royal Family’s more reserved traditions, hinting at the challenges that lay ahead for the couple even before they tied the knot.
