Prince Harry Left Red Faced After Netflix Hands Him a Deal He Can’t Brag About

Prince Harry has reportedly been dealt a humiliating blow by Netflix after failing to land the kind of mega contract he once boasted about. The Duke of Sussex, who made no secret of the fact that money was his biggest priority when he stepped down as a senior royal in 2020, is said to have been offered what one expert has branded a second rate deal.

Royal commentator Richard Eden pointed out that Harry himself told Oprah Winfrey how desperate he was for cash after his father cut him off financially. Eden said: “Harry himself, in his interview with Oprah Winfrey, talked about how he needed money and he needed it quickly because of security and money being cut off from his father. It’s definitely a slap in the face. What Harry would want would be another deal he could boast to Oprah Winfrey about—how much it’s worth.”

The fresh agreement with Netflix reportedly means Harry and Meghan will no longer be guaranteed millions up front. Instead, they will only make money if the streaming giant actually commissions and produces their ideas. For a couple who once flaunted a reported £100 million contract, it looks like a dramatic comedown, reported the Express.

While Harry struggles with the business side, Meghan has been busy pushing ahead with her own projects. This year she launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and also unveiled her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder. Industry insiders say Meghan is eager to carve out her own space online, keeping her focus firmly on digital ventures.

Away from the cameras, Harry is also said to be making tentative moves to mend fences with his family. The 39 year old has reportedly been trying to reconnect with King Charles as the monarch continues treatment for cancer. Photos of their aides chatting recently have fuelled speculation that a truce could be on the cards.

A source close to the Sussexes suggested Harry’s desire for reconciliation is driven by both emotional and practical reasons. “Harry wants to make peace with Charles because his father is gravely ill with cancer, and he doesn’t know how long he has,” they revealed. “But there’s a flip side to this as well. People around Harry are saying he recognises it would be in his best interest to bridge the gap between him and the royals now, while his father is still alive. It would help him immensely to be back on the royal payroll.”

The suggestion that Harry could be eyeing a return to royal finances will not go down well with critics who have long accused him of cashing in on his royal title while attacking the institution itself. But with Netflix tightening the purse strings and Meghan branching off into her own empire, the Duke may be running out of options.

For now, the deal with Netflix looks a far cry from the golden contract the couple once secured. If Harry hoped for a big-money deal he could boast about, it seems those days might be behind him.
