Prince Harry may yet Repair Family Bonds, Says Former Butler
A former royal butler has claimed Prince Harry still has a genuine chance of making peace with King Charles and Prince William, despite years of public rifts and criticism of the monarchy.
Grant Harrold, who worked for the Royal Family for many years, including at Charles and Camilla’s country home Highgrove, shared his thoughts in an interview with The Mirror. Harrold served not only the now King and Queen but also the late Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and both William and Harry when they were younger.
Speaking warmly about his former employer, Harrold described Charles as a man of surprising compassion and kindness. He recalled moments when the King would stop to ask after his life in detail, even remembering small things about his family and home.

“I would hear ‘Oh and how are you today?’ and I’d ignored him because I thought he was talking to the guests,” Harrold said. “Then he’d say my name and ask me again, and then he’d start saying ‘How’s your mum? How’s your papa? How’s your brother? How’s your home?’”
Harrold added that Charles always kept track of personal details: “If I was having something done, he’d always know and remember what was going on. He’d say ‘Did that thing get done in your house?’ His kindness and compassion would catch me off guard every single time”, reported the Express.
Because of this, Harrold believes Harry’s hopes of mending ties with his father are far from over. “Charles is a very compassionate man,” he said, stressing that this quality makes reconciliation realistic.
While Prince William may be less forgiving, Harrold thinks the King will want to take the bigger view. “Even if William – as the big brother – is angry at what Harry has done and maybe has more reservations about meeting up with Harry, I think the King, at this point in his life, will be thinking ‘Let’s look at the bigger picture. Life’s too short, and family is all you’ve got.’”
Harrold also suggested that Harry himself recognises the importance of repairing things, particularly given concerns about Charles’s health. “I think Harry does want to reunite with his father, because at the end of the day, Harry is aware that his father has not been a very well man, because they were very close and that doesn’t always change.”
The comments come as speculation continues about whether Harry will make efforts to return to the UK for more visits with his family. Despite the bitterness of recent years, Harrold’s words highlight a softer side to the King that might make forgiveness more possible than many assume.
