Viewers Left in Stitches After Prince Harry Caught Mansplaining Royal Tradition to Meghan

Prince Harry has been caught out in a rather awkward moment during one of Meghan Markle’s early royal appearances and viewers can’t stop talking about it.

The moment, which happened during their first ever joint Trooping the Colour appearance back in 2018, was picked up in a new Channel 5 documentary Lip-Reading the Royals: The Secret Conversations. In the programme, professional lip reader Nicola Hickling breaks down some of the exchanges between royal family members during the grand event, and it’s Harry’s chat with Meghan that’s got everyone chuckling.

According to Hickling, Harry was spotted giving Meghan a rather detailed run-through of what was about to happen, complete with hand gestures. “He was explaining to her what is going to happen and that Paras will be flying overhead,” Hickling said. Meghan, keeping it simple, apparently replied with just an “ok”.

While the exchange might sound helpful on paper, presenter and commentator Christo Foufas didn’t hold back, branding the moment a classic case of mansplaining. “The lip readers have exposed him mansplaining to her what a flypast,” he remarked, poking fun at the situation, reported the Mirror.

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but viewers have definitely picked up on the tone, with the clip now doing the rounds online and sparking plenty of amused reactions. Many found the exchange charming in its own way — after all, it’s not every day your first royal family event involves tanks, fanfare and aircraft buzzing overhead.

But Meghan wasn’t just listening. She had a few words of her own for Harry during the outing. According to the same analysis, she was seen telling him: “Take advantage of the situation,” to which he responded with a surprised, “Today?” Meghan then gave her answer: “Do it tonight.”

Exactly what they were plotting is anyone’s guess, but fans online have had a field day with the playful back and forth, with plenty speculating about what was really going on between the pair.

It wasn’t just the Sussexes under the microscope though. The documentary also zoomed in on Princess Charlotte, who unintentionally stole the show with her candid expressions. At one point, a viewer couldn’t help but comment, “I can say Charlotte and William have no poker faces,” after spotting their unfiltered reactions during the ceremony.

The royal balcony, with all its pomp and pageantry, always delivers iconic moments — but it’s these quiet, blink-and-you-miss-it exchanges that seem to stick with people. Whether it’s Harry’s overly detailed explanation or Meghan’s cryptic instruction, fans clearly can’t get enough of reading between the lines.
