Harry and Meghan Face New Chapter with Netflix Deal Ending

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are about to turn a major page in their post-royal life. Their massive Netflix deal, reportedly worth $100 million, is set to wrap up this year, and while some see opportunity ahead, royal expert Jennie Bond thinks the transition might hit Harry harder than Meghan.

The Sussexes signed their five-year contract with Netflix back in 2020, aiming to build a media empire and share their own stories outside the constraints of royal life. It started strong with their documentary Harry & Meghan, but follow-up projects didn’t quite land with viewers and fell flat in terms of impact.

Despite the eye-popping number attached to the deal, Bond points out it’s not necessarily a forever cushion, especially given the couple’s high-flying lifestyle in Montecito. “For most people, that sort of money would set them up for life,” she said. “But Montecito is luxurious and expensive. So they will have to find other streams of income.”

Bond believes Meghan is well-positioned to pivot. With her public persona, fashion sense and brand-building instincts, she could easily carve out a place for herself in the influencer world. “She has every chance of making a lot of money as an influencer,” Bond said. As for Harry, she suggested he may not be quite as ready for that kind of solo spotlight. Still, he seems content letting Meghan lead when it comes to being the face of their brand. “Harry seems more than happy for Meghan to be the public-facing side of their relationship,” Bond added.

Sources close to the matter say there’s no drama between Netflix and the couple. The decision not to renew the deal is said to be more about Netflix shifting its broader business strategy than any falling out. The relationship isn’t over entirely either. The streaming giant will still have first-look rights to anything Harry and Meghan pitch in the future, and they remain open to working together on one-off projects.

So while this might mark the end of a chapter, it’s far from a total breakup. Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever is still tied into Netflix’s consumer products division, and With Love, Meghan Season 2 is still on the release schedule.

But there’s no denying that this shift brings big questions about what’s next. The Netflix deal was a major part of the couple’s move to build independent lives outside the royal bubble. Now, with that security blanket slipping away, it will be interesting to see how they reinvent themselves.

For Meghan, the road forward looks promising with plenty of avenues to explore. For Harry, the future might be a little less clear. Whether he steps into a new role or continues to support from behind the scenes remains to be seen. Either way, one thing is certain. The world will be watching what they do next.
