Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s first outing showed signs of a clash
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s personality clash was obvious from the moment they stepped out together for their first public appearance.
Back in 2018, Meghan joined Kate, Prince William and her then fiancé Prince Harry for what was dubbed the “fab four” debut. It was supposed to be a picture of unity and strength, but the contrast in styles couldn’t have been clearer. Meghan came in with an energy and urgency that stood out next to Kate’s more cautious and measured approach.
Body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail: “There was a soft-focus filter over this ‘Fab Four’ meeting of minds at the time, as Harry rather coldly and incorrectly put it, ‘We’re together for life.’”

At the time, the public and the press expected Meghan to be like a new sister for Kate, similar to the way Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana had once bonded. The excitement was around the idea of a glamorous royal quartet working together on campaigns and charities.
But even from the start, James said the differences were hard to miss. “There was a powerful difference between the more cautious, careful and rather slow-hand-on-the-tiller campaign approach of William and Kate and the warp-speed urgency, drive, passion and energy of Meghan”, reported the Mirror.
The “fab four” were meant to be a modern powerhouse for the Royal Family, but that first outing already hinted that the partnership might not run smoothly.

While Kate and William favored a steady, traditional way of doing things, Meghan pushed for fast results and bold moves. The clash of styles soon became one of the undercurrents shaping the relationship between the couples.
What began as a hopeful new chapter quickly showed signs of strain. Far from the dream team many had imagined, the body language and differing approaches painted a picture of two women who were never likely to be in sync.
