Ohio Grandparents Arrested In ‘Unimaginable’ Cruel Child Abuse Case That Police Say ‘Makes You Sick’: ‘If there’s A Victim of This Type of Abuse, It’s Tragic’

A couple of Ohio grandparents have been arrested for allegedly participating in severe punishments that their daughter is accused of inflicting on her stepson, a juvenile boy, who police say was tortured to the point of developing “atrophy in his legs” and PTSD.

“If there’s a victim of this type of abuse, it’s tragic,” Delhi Township Police Lt. Joe Macaluso told Fox News Digital. “And when you have somebody that’s vulnerable, like a child or the elderly, it makes you sick.”

On child endangerment charges, Armin and Susan Rodriguez, 71 and 68, were both being held in the Hamilton County jail.

The scope of the abuse, according to Macaluso, made the case “hard to look into.”

According to Macaluso, the victim, his juvenile brother, and other relatives informed investigators that the punishments lasted for years and included forcing the youngster to stand alone in a room, hitting him, and restricting his meals.

“He was not allowed to urinate unless he was given permission by mom prior or my grandmother,” Macaluso said. “And he was not allowed to eat the same things everyone else would eat.”

As per Yahoo, prior accusations against the victim’s father and stepmother, who were suspected of similar abuse by a neighboring department in February, prompted the probe, according to Macaluso.

“When the authorities in that jurisdiction did a forensic interview with the child, he related the same type of treatment was occurring by his step-grandparents in my jurisdiction,” he said. “He would go over to his step-grandparents house, their daughter would say that he’s in trouble, and he’s to be in timeout or he’s grounded.”

Amy Rodriguez Dangel, according to court records obtained by Fox News Digital, faces 11 child endangerment charges for allegations that she “recklessly tortured or cruelly abused” the boy between January 2018 and April 2021. Anthony Dangel, her husband, and the boy’s father are charged with a single count of breaching his duty of care.

According to Macaluso, the step-grandparents were immediately indicted by a grand jury. They are scheduled to appear in court again on June 3.

“The torture perpetrated on this young child is unimaginable,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters told local media after the grandparents’ indictment, according to FOX 19. “He is safe now and with family members who love him.”
