Max Homa Caught on Camera Hurling a Club in Frustration at RBC Heritage

Max Homa found himself at the centre of a social media storm this weekend after the six-time PGA Tour winner hurled his club several yards in frustration during the final round of the RBC Heritage just days after publicly criticising golfers who lose their composure on the course.

The incident occurred at the par-4 15th hole at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. After failing to find the fairway, Homa’s temper got the better of him, and he sent his club flying. He bogeyed the hole and finished the tournament tied for 69th place, a disappointing end to what had already been a difficult week.

In isolation, a moment of frustration from a professional golfer would barely register. But the timing made it impossible to ignore. Just days earlier, on Wednesday, Homa had been asked about the PGA Tour’s code of conduct following Sergio Garcia’s warning for damaging a tee box at the Masters. Without naming Garcia directly, Homa was unambiguous in his views.

“I don’t like when people break clubs. I don’t like when people beat up the golf course, because we deal with it, and I think the breaking clubs makes us look very, very spoiled,” Homa said. “I try my absolute best not to do it. And when it does happen, as far as slamming a tee box, I’m very upset with myself, because we’re very lucky to play this game where we do, and I think it is a bad look.”

Those words aged poorly within 72 hours. Golf fans on social media wasted no time drawing the connection, flooding X with pointed commentary. “Set himself up after Sergio comment smh,” one user wrote. “Max: Do as I say, not as I do,” another added.

“Same guy that was on his high horse a few days ago saying it makes you look spoiled if you throw your club?” a third comment read. The backlash was swift and widespread, with many noting that Homa’s previous remarks had essentially written the script for his critics.

Garcia, for his part, had already issued a public apology for his own outburst earlier in the week. As of now, Homa has yet to address the incident, though given the volume of noise online, that may not remain the case for long.
