Trump’s lawyers accept a court order from a House committee on January 6

The subpoena calls for the former president to testify either at the Capitol or by videoconference at 10 a.m. ET on Nov. 14.

Attorneys for Donald Trump has accepted service of the subpoena issued by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot, according to a source familiar with the proceedings.

Politico was the first to report on the subpoena’s acceptance.

NBC News has reached out to a House Jan. 6 committee spokesperson, a Trump spokesperson, and a representative of the Dhillon Law Group, which represents Trump, for comment.

At the end of its most recent public hearing this month, the panel voted unanimously to summon Trump to testify. The subpoena requests that he testify either in person or via videoconference on Nov. 14, the day after the midterm elections.

Trump was also given a Nov. 4 deadline to turn over documents to the committee, including any communications he may have had with extremist groups involved in the Capitol riot, as well as any attempts in the previous year to contact witnesses testifying before the committee.

The Dhillon Law Group’s David A. Warrington previously confirmed to NBC News that the firm had been retained to handle this matter on Trump’s behalf and criticized the committee for “once again flouting norms and appropriate and customary process” by publicly releasing a copy of its subpoena.

On the day the subpoena was announced, Trump’s attorney David Warrington released a statement saying, “we are going to be handling this matter as counsel for President Donald J. Trump.

We understand that, once again, flouting norms and appropriate and customary process, the Committee has publicly released a copy of its subpoena. As with any similar matter, we will review and analyze it, and will respond as appropriate to this unprecedented action.”

The subpoena to Trump set a precedent by making it clear that the committee wants information directly from the former President as it investigates the attack.
