Lexington-Fayette County Health Officials Now Offering Covid Vaccine for Babies and Toddlers

On the chart of COVID community levels, Fayette County is once more rated as High. According to local health department representatives, children between the ages of six months to five years old can now receive the Moderna COVID vaccine.

The health department of Lexington-Fayette County’s spokesperson is Kevin Hall.

Hall explained, “Here is the Lexington Health Department, it’s only the Moderna vaccine for this age group. The Pfizer vaccine seems to be pretty widely available throughout central Kentucky and already we’re seeing people coming from different counties to our health department just because they want to be able to get the Moderna vaccine.”

As per WEKU, he stated that the vaccination will protect more than just the child.

“So you’re protecting grandma and grandpa who might be coming to visit or living there. You’re protecting anyone with compromised immune systems, this will help so many members of the community, specifically the family and the community at large.”

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, studies on these vaccines have revealed the same side effects as those linked to routine childhood vaccines. They include things like soreness and redness where the shot was administered.

“Pediatricians are letting us know that the side effects are similar to other childhood vaccinations, you might have a little redness or soreness at the injection site, and the child might be fatigued or cranky a few days afterward, but the side effects have shown to be mild….all the trials given to children in this age group, there were no serious side effects reported,” said Hall.
