Meghan Markle “Hated the Comparisons” With Kate Middleton: Royal Biographer

Published on

Tom Bower is famously critical of his subjects.

Many people wanted Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton to form a sister bond as she was getting ready to join the Royal Family. Others, though, thought it was far too simple to throw the two women against one another.

Sadly, it appears that the latter group’s predictions were the most accurate: There has reportedly been some animosity between Princes William and Harry in particular since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the royal family, with the wives likely supporting their respective husbands at least to some extent.

The most notable indication of tension between the Duchess of Cambridge and her Californian counterpart, despite reports that she is working to repair the relationship between her husband and his brother, was when Markle acknowledged that Middleton had made her cry prior her 2018 wedding in the 2021 Oprah interview.

Now, a shocking new biography by no-holds-barred royal novelist Tom Bower is shedding light on some of the feelings that might have been present when the Sussexes were still active members of the royal family.

In an excerpt of Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors(opens in new tab) published by The Times(opens in new tab), Bower writes, “No other member of the royal family had suffered as much embarrassment from their own family as Meghan. There was some equivalence in Meghan’s contempt for her half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas, and now Harry’s for Kate and William, in particular.

“The Cambridges, she believed, were failing to offer the recognition and generosity she deserved. She hated the comparisons with uncomplaining Kate. Effortlessly, the Cambridges appeared to be perfect. Meghan appeared to be influenced by the envy of Kate. In turn, the future queen regarded her neighbor as dismissive.”

I’ve never met either duchess and am unable to give an opinion on their personality or behavior behind the scenes, but I will note that Bower is well known for his unrelenting criticism and that his consistent use of negative adjectives to describe Markle and positive ones to describe Middleton serves to create a particular and biased impression of the two women. I’ll let you decide for yourself after that.
