Adele and Ed Sheeran Turn Down Offer to Perform at King Charles’ Coronation

Published on

When it came time to start preparing for King Charles’ Coronation on May 6—and the concert that will accompany the festive weekend the following day, May 7—Charles reportedly had two singers on his must-have list: Adele and Ed Sheeran. According to an organizer of the event, “the King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform, and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert.”

According to OK, both have denied the offer to play at the performance, thus it appears that the King will be disappointed. Sheeran explained that he will be performing in Texas the day before the Coronation event, making it tough to get everything in. According to the publication, Adele “refused the invitation without explanation.” She not only does not have a conflict on May 7, but she is also not scheduled to perform publicly after March 25.

“There is a team set up to get the talent signed up, so they approached the two of them but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment,” the source says. “They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British, but also known across the globe. It’s such a shame.”

Though the Coronation concert singers have yet to be confirmed, OK writes that Lionel Richie and the Spice Girls are expected to perform, and rumors are circulating that Harry Styles may also take the stage.

Speaking of who is coming and who isn’t, many outlets indicate that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to respond. According to the Daily Mail, the pair is still indecisive, and Harry wants to consult with his father and brother, Prince William, before leaving The Us for the ceremony. RSVPs are supposedly due by the beginning of April, giving the Sussexes around six weeks to decide.
