Huddersfield Mum’s Last Chance as Aggressive Cancer Battle Sends Her to Germany

The family of a young Huddersfield mum is urgently trying to raise £40,000 for specialist cancer treatment in Germany, after being told by UK doctors there are no further options available through the NHS.

Teeghan Farnsworth, 26, a mum-of-two from Crosland Moor, was initially told she likely had low iron after visiting her GP with persistent back pain. But in March 2023, following a colonoscopy, she received the devastating news that she had bowel cancer.

Teeghan underwent extensive treatment, including an 11-hour operation to remove her bowel and fit a stoma bag, followed by four rounds of chemotherapy. The treatment initially seemed successful, and she was told she was cancer-free, as per reports Yorkshire Live.

“We thought we could finally get back to living a normal life,” said her sister Cheneade. “She went back to work, booked her first family holiday with her two children and partner, and carried on being an amazing mum.”

However, in November, Teeghan received the heartbreaking news that the cancer had returned and had spread aggressively to her liver, abdomen, and pelvis—now classified as stage 4.

“They told her there’s nothing they can do,” Cheneade explained. “Without surgery, she has 12 months to live. It’s so aggressive.”

After consultations with hospitals in London, Basingstoke, and Manchester, the family was told that no further help could be offered in the UK. Determined not to give up, they began searching internationally for options. A clinic in Germany has now offered hope—but the treatment comes at a cost of £40,000.

To raise the funds, Cheneade has launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised over £12,000 in just six days, with more than 500 donations. One anonymous donor generously contributed £2,500.

“As a family, we are not ones to ask for help,” Cheneade wrote in the appeal. “But please take a couple of minutes of your time to read our story—and if you can, please help us.”

She added, “Teeghan is 26 years old and has two young children aged seven and five. She doesn’t want to leave her kids. We don’t want to lose her. We just want her to watch her babies grow up.”

Cheneade urged supporters, “Even if you can’t donate, please take a second of your time to share our story. I appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read this and can help in any way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The fundraiser remains ongoing as the family clings to the hope that treatment in Germany could save Teeghan’s life.
