Kate Middleton may be taking on a new role within the royal family, and the popular duchess may make history as a result.
Kate, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday, is expected to replace Prince Andrew, who was recently stripped of his HRH title, military, and charitable affiliations.
According to reports, Kate is being prepared to take over Andrew as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards after he lost the honorary position.
Andrew is currently facing a civil sexual assault trial in America. Virginia Giuffre is suing Prince Andrew for allegedly sexually assaulting her as a teen. All allegations are denied by the Duke.
‘From straw polling through the ranks, they would all love it to be Kate,’ a senior source in the Grenadier Guards told The Sunday Times. We all admire how she has fitted in and behaved; she never seems to step out wrong.
‘Everything she has taken on she really commits to, and we want someone who will really engage with us.’
According to a military source, the new colonel’s name was supposed to be announced on Monday but was delayed.
If Kate is appointed Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, she will make history. She would be the regiment’s first woman leader in its 366-year history.
Before retiring from public life in 2017, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was a colonel, and this honorary role was then passed on to Prince Andrew.
However, after Andrew was accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, who claims the events occurred when she was only 17 years old and were related to Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, he was stripped of his titles.
If Kate is awarded the title, it will be a clear sign that the British royal family intends to modernize and promote women to prominent roles within the royal family.
The news of who will take over the royal will be made this week.
