7 Fittest Foods for Men

Are you tired of putting in the effort at the gym and not seeing results? Many people show the drive, determination, and consistent effort, but don’t reach their goals. If this sounds familiar, the next logical step is usually to find an educated personal trainer with proven experience. But, if you’re not ready to take that step, or if you’d prefer to go it alone, rest assured, we spoke to some of the nation’s finest personal trainers who gave us 25 insightful tips and strategies specifically designed to help you build strength, gain muscle mass, lose fat, enhance your endurance and maintain healthy eating habits.

7 Fittest Foods for Men

1) Salmon
121 calories per 3-oz serving
Eat 3-4 servings per week
Salmon made out list for a number of reasons, but the biggest has got to be because its so densely stuffed with omega-3’s. These fatty acids are thought to slow memory loss as you age and boost heart health by regulating heart rhythms and keeping arteries and veins supple and free of blockages. While saturated fats lead to obesity, the polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish appear to correct and prevent obesity, according to a study published in Clinical Science.

2) Blueberries
41 calories per half cup
Eat 1-2 cups per week
Of all the fruit you can eat, blueberries may be the absolute best. Whether you’re getting them raw, tossed into cereal, mixed in fruit salad or a smoothie, blueberries pack more fiber, vitamins, and minerals per ounce than any other fruit in the produce aisle. Chief among those nutrients are free-radical-fighting antioxidants. Free radicals, which increase in number as you get older, travel around your body damaging cells, promoting disease, and triggering signs of premature aging. And blueberries harness the firepower to knock them out of service.

3) Tomatoes
83 calories per cup
Eat 4 servings per week
Yes, it’s true that tomatoes used to be called “love apples” and have a reputation as a powerful aphrodisiac. But that lore has nothing to do with why we picked the tomato as the best food for sexual health. Rather, tomatoes win their place on our chart-and their relatively high ranking overall-because of a single nutrient: lycopene.

Almonds

4) Oatmeal
148 calories per half cup
Eat 3-4 servings per week
When it comes to eating breakfast in the morning, there’s nothing better than a bowl of oatmeal to spike your energy levels and provide you with an hours-long supply of fuel. Oatmeal is also filled with stress-fighting and immunity-boosting zinc.

5) Spinach
7 calories per cup
Eat 2-3 servings per week
What do button-down dietitians have in common with brawl-happy cartoon sailors? They all love their spinach! And for good reason. One serving of these leafy greens is loaded with fiber, calcium, and virtually your entire day’s recommended dosage of beta carotene, a nutrient vital for immune-system health, good vision, but not-as far as we know-huge wrist flexors. If you can’t stand spinach plain, Katherine Tallmadge, R.D., author of Diet Simple, suggests dropping it into burritos, pasta dishes and canned soup.

6) Broccoli
31 calories per cup
Eat 2-3 half-cup servings per week
This fleshy green should be at the top of your list when it comes to vegetables. It’s rich with a healthy supply of iron, calcium, fiber, and vitamin C, meaning it’s good for the circulatory system, bones, and fighting colds. “As far as vegetables go, this is the one I try hardest to get more guys to eat,” says Niki Kubiak, R.D., a private practice nutritionist in Omaha, Neb. Brocco-phobic? Try it on the sly: Slip it into stir-fries, onto pizza, or use raw chunks as a vehicle for your favorite dip.

Tomatoes

7) Almonds
82 calories per 1/2-oz serving
Eat 3 servings per week
High in protein, fiber, and vitamin E, almonds are great for your heart, digestive system, and skin. Although they’re also loaded with healthy unsaturated fats, some guys avoid them because they’re so calorie-dense. But that’s a mistake. Gary Fraser, Ph.D., a professor of medicine at Loma Linda University in California, studied folks who added two ounces of almonds to their diet on a regular basis. Turns out they had no significant weight change. “Since nuts are such a hard food, it appears that a significant amount of their calories are never absorbed into the body,

Temperley London Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

Alice Temperley London turned out bohemian looks for a “Cuban meets folk dandy” pre-fall collection in a palette of rich reds, greens, nudes and powder blue. The lineup had a broad sweep, including traditional English tailored pieces, full-skirted silhouettes and botanical prints with hand-embroidered embellishments, all influenced by Cuba’s saturated tropical tones.

Daywear and evening was rife with island-inspired decoration. Of the former, dresses – long and short came in organza, French lace and silk, while black dresses were adorned with botanical needlework patterns.

5 Ways to WorkOut Without Weights

With all the knowledge that’s out there now about exercise, there’s really no excuse for not achieving your fitness goals. You can’t argue that you don’t know what to do because there are hundreds of coaches offering thousands of different programs (pick one!). People love to say they don’t have time to work out, but there are dozens of routines that can be completed in minutes.

5 Ways to WorkOut Without Weights

1. Count Down From 10

Most of us fall into a rut with pullups and dips. We plateau at a certain number of sets and reps and can’t seem to get unstuck. Try performing sets of descending reps. Do a set of 10, then a set of 9, and so on down to 1 rep. As your muscles fatigue, the workload gets reduced, so you get just enough recovery to build up a good volume of exercise—55 total reps, a number most of us never approach with three sets to failure. This countdown method is often used by guys who do all their training on monkey bars in your local park—the same ones who can knock out dozens of pullups in one shot.

2. Train Like An Animal

The best thing you can do to stick with any workout plan is to make it fun. Treat your training like play. You probably haven’t performed exercises like the bear crawl or crab walk since you were a kid, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t do them again. As a grownup, you’ll see how much harder it is to move in those postures, and you’ll immediately recognize any tight muscles or weak areas. Training with kids exercises, goofy as they may look, will strengthen your core and increase mobility, as well as get your heart rate up and challenge your endurance. And honestly, they’re so silly you can’t help but enjoy performing them. Do them with your kids, or your girlfriend. For the bear crawl, walk on all fours with your legs fairly straight so your hips are above head level. On the crab walk, sit on the floor, bridge your hips up, and walk forward and back on your hands and feet.

3. Use A Deck Of Cards

You can make a game of any body-weight exercise by using a deck of cards to determine the reps you perform. Assign a different suit to each exercise you’re doing, so clubs could be pushups, diamonds could be pullups, hearts might be lunges, and spades situps. Place the deck on the floor face down and start turning over cards. Whatever number is on the card, that’s how many reps you do; for face cards, continue counting up. So a jack would mean 11 reps, a queen 12, king 13, and ace 14. You can make jokers or any other card you like “wild” and perform any number of reps.

4. Do Drop Sets

You might only be familiar with drop sets as they’re done when using weights, but you can use them on body-weight lifts too. The trick is to vary your mechanical advantage. Start with a body position that makes the exercise hard, and then adjust it to “drop” to an easier position that lets you crank out more reps. For instance, perform wide-grip pullups to just shy of failure. Immediately bring your grip in and turn your palms to face you so you’re doing a chinup. Do as many chinups as you can and then bring your hands in even closer so you’re doing a close-grip chinup with hands nearly touching.

5. Do “Blurpees”

Occasionally, you’ll find yourself in an environment where you don’t have a chinup bar or even a tree or pipe you can hang off and your only equipment is the floor beneath you. In other words, a jail cell. Just kidding! (Although if you are in jail, I’m not judging. In this case, it can be difficult to find a way to work your back. Enter what Tim Ferriss, author of The Four-Hour Body, calls the “blurpee”. It’s a classic burpee but with lat involvement, so you get the effect of doing pullups without having something to hang from to do them.

Norm of the North’: Film Review

A twerking polar bear and a trio of lively lemmings are the main selling points of Lionsgate’s animated feature originally slated for direct-to-video but now receiving a wide theatrical release. Hoping to cash in on this holiday weekend’s absence of kiddie fare — after all, you can’t take little Heather and Tommy to The Revenant — Norm of the North is mildly diverting, although Pixar needn’t be overly concerned.

Norm of the North

The title character, voiced by Rob Schneider, is a polar bear so sweet that he can’t bring himself to eat seals, although he desperately tries to chase one down in the hyperkinetic opening scene. Norm’s special gift is the ability to “speak human,” which comes increasingly into play with the encroachment of bear-loving tourists and, more dangerously, a villainous billionaire real-estate developer, ironically named Mr. Greene (Ken Jeong), who plans to build luxury condos in the frozen landscape.

Norm of the North

Alarmed when he finds out about the plan by the arrival of Mr. Greene’s marketing director, Vera (Heather Graham), to shoot a TV commercial, Norm decides that he has to take action. Encouraged by his wise seagull mentor Socrates (Bill Nighy), he stows away with three lemming cohorts on a ship to Manhattan to prevent his homeland from being despoiled. Once there, Norm finds himself a minor celebrity, with jaded New Yorkers assuming he’s an actor in a polar bear suit. He even performs his trademark dance, the “Arctic Shake,” to delighted audiences in Times Square, although unlike the current crop of Elmos, Spider Men, et al, he doesn’t solicit tips.

Norm of the North

The film doesn’t exactly score points for originality, whether it’s the frequent musical numbers, the indestructible lemmings whose resemblance to Minions is strictly not coincidental or the reliably kid-pleasing bathroom humor, here evidenced by such moments as when the lemmings relieve themselves over a fish tank. As a bone to adults, there’s also a glancing effort to embrace such weighty themes as global warming and conservation.  Neither its animation nor voice performances (Colm Meaney and comedian Gabriel Iglesias also lend their talents) are particularly memorable, but Norm of the North, especially in its early section set in the Arctic, has its appealing moments. And if the film does well, those adorable lemmings are going to make for some highly coveted plush toys.

TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Machine Nendo Limited Edition Watch

If you are like me, you have heard about TAG Heuer, but until now did not know about Nendo. Worry not, as we shall discover right now that over the last 18 years, this Tokyo, Japan-based design company has worked on everything from designing shoe stores through creating graphics and advertisements all, the way to a wide range of products – which happen to include watches.

TAG-Heuer-Carrera

As such, in one of its latest ventures, Nendo has collaborated with TAG Heuer to create a very cool TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 Time Machine Nendo Japan Limited Edition, with a set of highly unusual red hands – not linked to, but strangely reminiscent of those unnecessarily large and yet strangely awesome swords flung around viciously by Japanese anime cartoon characters. Nendo explains its concept as “Giving people a small ‘!’ moment (…) which make our days so interesting, so rich.

Thatʼs why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and reshaping them into something thatʼs easy to understand. Weʼd like the people whoʼve encountered Nendoʼs designs to feel these small ‘!’ moments intuitively.”Well, for fans of the TAG Heuer Carrera, these bold, large, red hands are more than a “small ‘!’ moment,” as the dial and hence the overall appearance of this classic Carrera is changed considerably. Frankly, at first sight, I was expecting to learn about a rare tribute limited-edition watch to some Japanese manga comics or anime shows, but it turns out the concept behind the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 Time Machine Nendo Japan Limited Edition is very different.

TAG-Heuer-Carrera

Nendo wanted to re-interpret the design of the Carrera through an image of “having gone to a local traditional watchmaker to get a chronograph watch repaired, only to find that the elderly proprietor has put on a pair of clock hands from a vintage watch by mistake.” Nicknamed the Time Machine, this edition of the Carrera is a bit like the Legacy Machines of MB&F (hands-on here), where there is a unique blend of modern and traditional design elements – clearly, the execution of MB&F’s dedicated Legacy Machine collection is much more thorough, but Nendo’s approach is surely also a lot of fun and a fascinating and unexpected take on a modern icon. Nendo takes this vintage theme further by making the watch box look like an old book, with space inside for a smaller TAG Heuer box for the watch, as well as a red bookmark and paper knife, both designed to closely replicate the design of the hands of the watch.

TAG-Heuer-Carrera

While the book-watch-box idea is something we have seen elsewhere before a number of times, having additional items that mimic particular design elements of the watch is a neat idea and one that would be nice to encounter more often. Last but not least, the watch also comes with a glass clock stand, individually handcrafted from an antique jar. With the old book, the red tools and this jar to cover the watch, you really can replicate the atmosphere of old workshops and laboratories – and yet, all this is linked to one of the more wearable and versatile, modern chronograph wrist watches of the 21st century.

NENDO-LIMITED-EDITION

Every other element other than the hour and minute hands of the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 Time Machine Nendo Japan Limited Edition remain unchanged, so the 43mm-wide steel case, black ceramic bezel, black dial, and also the steel bracelet are all standard ones from TAG Heuer. This means that you really do get a very extraordinary blend of unmistakeable TAG Heuer Carrera DNA as well as a unique twist thanks to a pair of hands that do seem to be an afterthought or a one-of-a-kind modification.
